A disclosure check will not have an expiry date and there is no specific period for which they are valid.

Disclosure Services Ltd. Before you start your Individual Basic DBS Check, it is extremely important that you ask yourself the below questions and fully read the information carefully. The organisation that has asked you to complete a check will be able to provide you with the logins that you need to gain access to the portal. Should you continue to proceed and pay for an Individual Basic DBS Check through this portal, your check will be processed by our team and the information will be sent to the DBS for which we will be invoiced.

We will be unable to offer you a refund for applications that have been submitted through the wrong portal or that you no longer require.

As part of your application, your identity will need to be verified by a Registered Professional, somebody that has one of the job titles listed here.

However, it is incredibly important that you do not progress with your application unless you are able to get your documents verified by a Registered Professional.

Most Registered Professionals will not charge you for this service, but we always recommend asking one that is familiar to you to be sure. We will be unable to offer a refund for applications that cannot be completed due to an individual being unable to verify their identity. If you do, the details will show on your certificate but more about that later. The amount of information revealed depends on the level of check. Standard DBS Checks show details of convictions and cautions excluding youth cautions, reprimands and warnings held on police records that are not subject to filtering more about this below.

Enhanced DBS Checks show the same information as Standard Checks, plus any additional information held by local police considered relevant to the role in question. Enhanced DBS Checks can also disclose whether an individual is included on either of the lists which bar them from working with children or vulnerable adults, if the role is eligible and the employer requests this information.

In May , the government introduced a filtering system. This means that not all cautions and convictions are automatically revealed by DBS Checks. In addition, employers are not allowed to take filtered convictions and cautions that they are not entitled to ask about into account when making a decision about a job applicant, under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act The government provides a list of offences that will always be disclosed on a Standard or Enhanced DBS certificate unless they relate to a youth caution.

All convictions resulting in a custodial sentence, whether or not suspended, will also always be disclosed. The length of time will depend on the nature and severity of the offence. Employers may want to consider adjusting their recruitment procedures to reflect the changes in filtering rules for Standard and Enhanced DBS Checks. Job application forms relating to positions that are eligible for a Standard or Enhanced DBS Check will need to reflect the new rules so that:. An employer can only request an enhanced check if the role applied for is eligible. If the employer carries out less than checks per year, they will use a registered body acting as an umbrella body to apply for the check on their behalf. The majority of registered bodies sign up to the DBS e-bulk service which allows them to submit applications and receive the results electronically. This generally reduces the time it takes for the check to be processed. If the local police force have not provided information to the DBS within 60 days, the DBS can escalate your application.

You can make a request after 60 days to have your application escalated by contacting the DBS on or by using their online tracking system. The certificate will usually be sent to you unless you have signed a waiver, requesting it to be sent to your employer.
