Italians aren't a race, and Jersey Shore is a bad influence to society.
Although I disagree with your argument, you can write quite persuasively. Your writing is very good. DeZZi said Awesome, I only saw one episode but just that gave me a huge confidence boost. I was worried about what people thought about me but after watching it I decided to cut back and be myself, who cares what other people think, as long as I'm okay with it is all that matters.
This article is great because alot of people think Jersey Shore teaches bad morals, but if you have strong beliefs a show wouldn't change that. Great work. Share this on. Your name. There have been countless fictional portrayals of organised crime over the years, from The Godfather to New Jersey's own, The Sopranos, which have built up a particular picture.
The Sopranos won awards, was broadcast around the world and did address the issue of stereotyping, but the activists think it still may have influenced the thinking of simpler souls. But some think there is a big difference between quality drama like The Sopranos or an Oscar-winning film like The Godfather and something like Jersey Shore, says Mr Vitale.
And for all that no-one really thinks that a significant proportion of Italian-Americans are criminals, the constant sniping irritates and reminds people of unhappier times past. Just having a name with a vowel at the end can be enough to cause some difficulty. A running theme among the activists seems to be that because Italian-Americans do not face serious discrimination in contemporary society, it's seen as fine to stereotype them. We have enjoyed a lot of success. We are not a group that people will feel sorry for.
We don't want to look like we are hypersensitive and cry-babies. Historian Vincenza Scarpaci, author of The Journey of the Italians in America, says that despite the early Americans love of Italian culture, art and architecture, there was still a hostile reaction to the Italian immigrants who started arriving in large numbers at the beginning of the 20th Century.
Ms Scarpaci winces when she recalls the friend who came up to her and said: "I tell all my friends I know Vinnie Scarpaci and they better not mess with me. The cast sexually exploited themselves, abused alcohol, and had low self-esteem. They instructed teens to prioritize gym, tanning, and laundry over education and hard work. They taught teenage girls to hate themselves and that to have fun you need to act like a trashy slut.
For three years and six seasons they advertised verbal abuse and the regular use of vulgar words to criticize friends. And it did not stop at words because they were a physical group.
Five arrests were made over the three years the show was filmed. Brawls were expected, and they were celebrated. It obvious that this show had a dangerous amount of influence and therefore damaged society by appealing to millions of teenagers. While it was not an educational program, it certainly taught viewers the nonexistent Jersey Shore morals and unacceptable social behaviors.
This group of delinquents humiliated New Jersey and the Italian culture.
