Who is the real stillwater

Uh, no. But I have extended the invitation for a conversation because ultimately that was my goal. My goal was not to do, like, celebrity bashing. If anything, I wanted to point out something that I felt was overlooked and extend the invitation to have a conversation about something that a lot of people have just taken for granted.

Meredith Kercher was murdered in, I think, , and shortly thereafter your life was turned upside down by what became this global headline-grabbing scandal. It was perpetuated by a media that was drawn to a seemingly salacious story, but now you do.

Of all the people who were involved in the events and the actions that took place, I was one of the most peripheral people with the least amount of agency. Things were just happening to me. So the person who did murder Meredith Kercher and the Italian authorities who made decisions about who to arrest and when and how and what story to tell to the media, these are all people who are making choices that have lasting consequences for innocent people.

And I really had very, very little say in what happened to me. A lot of my story is just me sitting in a prison cell reading a book hoping that that stuff is going to get worked out. How do you carry on to do even just, like, the really simple things of meeting people and going on a date and getting a job? These are all challenges that exonerees have a really interesting sort of surreal twist as they enter into the world. McCarthy says that like many around the globe, he was fascinated by the story.

There were just so many layers to that story that kept anyone who was following pretty riveted…. Who are the people that are visiting [her], and what are those relationships? And so that, I thought, was a really interesting place to put a movie. In Stillwater , college student Allison Abigail Breslin has been imprisoned for a violent crime in Marseille, France—not Perugia, Italy—for five years and counting.

And unfortunately for Allison, she does not have the strong support system Knox had. Where is the line between fact and fiction in narrative filmmaking? How much do screenwriters care about accuracy when basing a film off of a true story?

In his newest film, however, McCarthy takes a different approach. However, because it is inspired by the story instead of based on it, McCarthy has more room to take the story in a far different direction than reality. What he does with it is far more dramatized and, as a result, more problematic.

Bill has grown a lot as a person since Allison was a child and seems in a more fit state to be a good parent — a role he is able to fulfill for Maya.
